- I'm a classically trained musician and a qualified librarian, and would currently define myself as a 'scholar librarian'. I'm passionate about historical Scottish music, cultural history and the literature of the 18th and 19th centuries. I've published and given a number of papers primarily on my doctoral subject - Scottish song collecting from the Enlightenment to the Romantic Era - and published my first book in Spring 2013 with Ashgate Books. I'm currently seconded two days a week to the AHRC-funded 'Bass Culture' blog, a project looking at the basslines and accompaniments in Scottish fiddle books. It's jointly run by the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge. I author various blogs - Whittaker Live for my workplace; True Imaginary Friends about my own research interests; the Music blog for Jobs.ac.uk; and I contribute to the Bass Culture blog too, of course. I'm also a book reviewer. Sewing and patchwork are my principle distractions when I'm procrastinating from doing something more intellectually demanding!
